PEP ecopassport® publishes the first methodological guide dedicated to refurbished equipment.

At its General Meeting on July 8, 2026, the PEP ecopassport® association announced the publication of a groundbreaking methodological guide for producing PEPs or EPDs for refurbished equipment.

Refurbishment: a pillar of the circular economy that remains difficult to assess
Product refurbishment is currently one of the most promising drivers of the circular economy. When done correctly, it extends the lifespan of equipment while limiting resource consumption and associated environmental impacts.
Driven by growing demand from both individual users and business clients, the market for refurbished goods is expanding rapidly. However, a problem remains: while the environmental impacts of new products are now well documented, those of refurbished products remain difficult to assess consistently and transparently due to the lack of a shared methodology.

A method developed with industry players for electrical, electronic, and HVAC equipment
To address this gap, several manufacturers belonging to PEP ecopassport® joined forces to develop a common method, formalized in this new guide.
One of the main challenges was to fairly allocate the environmental benefits and impacts associated with refurbishment operations. The chosen method accounts for both: the product that has been given a second life and the refurbished product itself, with each being credited with an impact reduction compared to a baseline scenario without refurbishment.
This approach goes beyond greenhouse gas emissions alone; it covers the full range of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) indicators, including material and resource consumption, factors often overlooked by methods focused solely on carbon.

A common framework to boost the refurbished market
The association’s ambition is clear: to enable all stakeholders across the electrical, electronic, and HVAC sectors to adopt this method, thereby fostering the development of environmental declarations for refurbished products and, more broadly, encouraging their use.
The methodology is designed to evolve progressively, product family by product family, based on the feedback collected. Ultimately, these insights could be directly integrated into PCR and PSR rules.

The P.E.P Ecopassport Association Launches its Users Club

Paris, November 25, 2025 – A non-profit organization dedicated to the development and management of the PEP environmental product declaration (EPD) program, the P.E.P Ecopassport Association announces the creation of its Users Club. Its goal: to foster exchanges and the sharing of information, broaden the sharing of EPD needs, and improve access to data.

As the creation of P.E.P datasheets proves more dynamic than ever — the P.E.P Ecopassport Association recently surpassed 5,000 declarations registered in its database — users of these same datasheets are increasingly expressing the need to share their challenges with the manufacturers who publish P.E.P sheets. Market expectations, model limitations, and data access are among the issues faced by engineering firms, architects, project owners, integrators, as well as certifiers and public institutions when using P.E.P datasheets. On their side, manufacturers and producers need to better understand their clients and end-users in order to explain their constraints and methods.

It is to address these shared challenges that the P.E.P Ecopassport Association has decided to create its first Users Club. Chaired by Christian Amiot, Procurement Mission Manager at VINCI Energies, the Club will initially meet on a quarterly basis. In parallel, several working groups are being set up and will be able to meet more regularly. The P.E.P Ecopassport Users Club currently has around thirty members and is open to all members of the association.

Our experience has shown us that better collaboration between all stakeholders was necessary to improve the identification of impacts and enhance the environmental quality of electrical, electronic, and HVAC products used in our sector. It was therefore only natural that we were delighted to further our commitment by taking the lead of the Association’s Users Club,” says Christian Amiot.

Over 5,000 Active EPDs for the P.E.P Ecopassport Association!

Paris, September 23, 2025 – A non-profit organization dedicated to the development and management of the PEP environmental product declaration (EPD) program, the P.E.P Ecopassport Association has just held its 16th General Assembly. On this occasion, the association announces a major milestone in its development: its database now hosts more than 5,000 active PEPs!

In keeping with this momentum, and to better meet the exponentially growing demand for PEPs, the association is expanding its team and working on a new roadmap.

In 2009, aware of the need to reduce their environmental impact, stakeholders in the electrical, electronic, and HVAC equipment sector — with the support of professional trade associations and institutions at both French and European level — founded the P.E.P Ecopassport Association. Their goal was clear: to standardize and promote practices and methodologies for assessing the environmental performance of their products, and to create a driver of progress in environmental performance. In practice, the association defines, in compliance with ISO 14025, the governance, development, verification, and publication of EPDs (PEPs) for the sector.

An Exponential Rise in PEP Demand

Over the past two years, the P.E.P Association has recorded a sharp acceleration in its activity. The number of PEP datasheets hosted in its database has now reached 5,000. No fewer than 1,800 new PEPs were registered in 2024, representing a 100% increase between 2023 and 2024.

The number of declarants has also doubled, reaching a total of 95. The same applies to its membership: the P.E.P Ecopassport Association currently counts 56 members, all professionals from the electrical, electronic, and HVAC equipment sector.

Accelerating and Expanding Our Service Offering to Meet Growing Demand

Developments in French regulations (RE2020) and European legislation (EPBD, CPR, ESPR…), combined with the growing commitment of companies to integrating climate challenges into their strategy, are driving an exponential rise in demand for environmental data. PEP datasheets, as EPDs — currently the most rigorous form of environmental declaration — are well-positioned to meet these needs.

To respond to this unprecedented acceleration, the association has already been gearing up over the past few months, beginning with the recruitment of two new key team members: an office manager, Nadia XXX, and a new Director, Julien Morganti. The latter is currently developing a new roadmap along with a range of tools and services designed to rapidly address this growing demand.

The medium-term objective is to build the capacity needed to scale up EPD and PEP production in support of the sector’s decarbonization.
